DELTA ZETA CREED

To the world,
I promise temperance and insight and courage,
To crusade for justice,
To seek the truth and defend it always:
To those whom my life may touch in slight measure,
May I give graciously
Of what is mine;
To my friends,
Understanding and appreciation;
To those closer ones,
Love that is ever steadfast;
To my mind,
Growth;
To myself,
Faith
That I may walk truly
In the light of the Flame.

National History

Delta Zeta was founded on October 24, 1902 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Six women--Alfa Lloyd, Anna Keen, Mabelle Minton, Mary Collins, Julia Bishop, and Anne Simmons--felt the need for a sisterhood in a predominantly male school. After seeing the fellowship the men projected through their fraternities, the ladies decided to form their own sorority, and the idea of Delta Zeta was born. Guy Potter Benton, president of the university at that time and a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, was very influential in helping the women form the sorority, and as a result is the only man ever to wear the Delta Zeta badge. The women met at Alfa Lloyd's house to discuss the matters of the sorority, including the writing of the Constitution and Code of Regulations.

Local History

In the 1970's a group of young women at Georgia College got together and formed a local sorority. These women, along with the antebellum charm of Milledgeville and Georgia College, whet the interest of Delta Zeta in desiring to become a part of this intriguing campus and bringing these women to become a part of them. In the spring of 1974, Alpha Pi Omega, the only local sorority on the Georgia College campus, petitioned Delta Zeta and subsequently became Lambda Pi Colony. On a beautiful autumn weekend six months later, November 9 & 10, Lambda Pi was officially installed as the newest chapter of the Delta Zeta Sorority.
